Search and Navigate

The Navigator Home page has a familiar topic search box. You can select to search by type (People, Organizations, Grants, Technologies, Papers, Patents).

There are bubuttons preset for NIH and NSF Grants and Inteum Technology Publisher technologies.

Navigator Facet Search lets you filter to refine the results using filters for type, by text search, by Organization affiliation, individual investigators by name, and/or feed source.

From the list of results, click on the Title to open the Detail Page overview for that topic and use the View Map button.

Discover and Explore

Within the maps you can follow the story of innovation over time and through interconnections. The elements of teh Overview map interact: the map of linked topics, the timeline showing the same topics in time, and the sidebar tabs showing "card" summaries of the topics and keywords. You can double-click a node to re-enter the map on that topic, or click a Title to navigate to that topic. The tabs are color coded as a key to the node types.

Find Fit and Connect

You can "read around" a topic by following the links to online papers, patents, innovation disclosures, and news. Often the co-authors or the connected projects lead to "in between" innovators or the most recent discoveries that are a closer fit to your needs. The curated links in the topic cards allow you to quickly jump to the innovator's public web page and contact information. You can capture the weblink of interesting technologies with a button-click and stave them into your IP workflow and easily share with colleagues.

Technology Transfer Offices

Many University Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs) publish an RSS Feed of technologies that are available for license. Visible Legacy can read these feeds and snap the inventions into our knowledge graph and link them to the people, grants, papers, organizations and patents that give potential licensees the "context" to quickly universtand and navigate the development ecosystem.

We offer "script tags" that let your Inteum Admin or tech transfer website developer easily add links to the respective maps in Navigator and we link back. This allows your potential licensee to quickly see the context of the invention and follow their need to find a fit faster.

We have another script tag option that adds a list of related technologies right into your Technology Publisher. These links let your user navigate around your site and keep them on your site longer to find a larger portfolio of interest.

For top-level display, you can add a large map of all available technologies and let your user navigate by organization.

Corporate Partnering and Industrial Affiliates

As University revenue from Corporate Partnerships grow, Visible Navigator can be a visual and interactive tool to communicate the ecosystem surrounding new technologies. Navigator presents the process of innovation over time and shows the collaboration of people and prior success. Your TTO can help your Corporate Partnering team create targeted widgets to show maps around Departments, Centers, or keywords.

Academic Profiles

Visible Legacy captures the public information from faculty profiles. Your Profiles website developer can easily add a technologies list or interactive widget to the profile template. This gives potential licensees and collaborators the context of a PIs work to speed the discussions of fit.

Use Search API

Use the Visible Legacy Search API to add elements to your site (coming soon)

For University Outreach with a development team, we plan to offer an application programmer's interface (API) to enable you to give your users a search box into the Visible Legacy Map data right in your communications page. You can limit the search as desired to find people, organizations, and/or projects related to your Affiliates Program. The service is offered as the Visible Legacy Search API Platform.

Perhaps your Affiliates page is text. You would like to show the vibrancy and context of the ecosystem, show what your investigators are known for, and encourage more industrial participation and licensing interest.

Adding a search box lets users find related topics. The search results list can then be built right into your page. If your user wants to delve into the details, you can add related information into your detail pages. You can also add maps customized to your audience for context and navigation.

Please see the Search API Documentation for more.

Don't want to use an API?

The embedded map widget version can be easily inserted into web pages and sized without needing to use the API. Learn more about widgets.

Our search box is also an embeddable element. Learn more about embeddable Search Box.
